#rompofacomp: 100 strong

today’s #showertune was the 99th that i’ve posted, and therefore tomorrow with see us ton-up.

to celebrate the passing of this arbitrary milestone, over the next few days we will be running a kickass competition. to enter, all you have to do is leave a comment, either on this post or tomorrow’s 100th entry, telling us which is your favourite #showertune (here’s the full list).

not only will the winner receive a bespoke, home-designed and handcrafted mixtape (well, unmixed CD) containing any 15 #showertune tracks of their choice, but they will also win the privilege of choosing their very own #showertune. (no i can’t believe it either). their choice will then be posted on Thursday the 5th August, along with publicity for any blog or (appropriate) webcontent that they would like to draw readers’ attention to.

i also have a set of genuine, RockBand branded, 5A wooden drumsticks (just like these) to give away to one lucky runner-up (yeah, weird choice, right?).

comments must be posted by midnight on Sunday 1st August, and the winners will be contacted soon after. my decision is final. (remember to leave contact details so we can get back to you if you win).

friends, please don’t make RQT look stupid by not entering. i’ll be OK, but i know that the #gastrognome will be gutted if we don’t get a fair amount of entries – you don’t want to make a small, felted gnome cry, do you? do you?

if you regularly read RQT and like the cut of our jib, then maybe you could take this opportunity to spread the word among your many and various friends – what with that Facebook and Twitter, it’s not that hard to do a blog a favour, is it?

if you’re new to us, why not take a stroll around?

thanks, and good luck.

don’t cry gastrognome, you’ll make your felt self all soggy! :(

  1. I would like to enter this competition. My favourite #showertune so far is definitely ‘your revolution’ by dj vadim feat. sarah jones. Yay for feminist #showertunes!

I choose Gil Scott Herron, not least because it’s really hard to remember how many consonants there are in ALL THREE of his names. My close second is Christina. I also really like ‘Feels Just Like it Should’.

Yo. I don’t know of all these tracks, but from those I know, I’m going for Remember Me by The Trinikas – tuuuunnnnnnneeee!!!

  2. All three current suggestions are good, and that’s a magic number, but You Aint Seen Nothin’ Yet.

I think this competition is a good idea. I mean, there comes a time on every man’s blog, when he’s gotta post some shit up on his own. Can’t depend on friends to help you with a tweet, please, they’ve got followers of their own.

With than in mind, and because I don’t want the revolution to become homogenized, I’m going for Runnin’.

Promise me one thing, don’t stop the ShowerTunes: God Only Knows what I’d be without them. My Beautiful Mornings would be like a Ghost Town.

I would hereby also like to nominate Runnin’, and salute Club of One for also choosing this excellent choice. What follows is an anecdote about PASSION on THE DANCEFLOOR in LONDON’S EAST END and one SADLY PASSED ON HIP HOP LEGEND as well as NOSTALGIA and SUMMERTIME. It is rated 12a and has a theme of sustained peril and sweat.

I went on a is-this-a-date sort-of-date oh-man-please-let-this-be-a-date last year with a hip-hop DJ I’d been totally crushing on all summer. Like every time I ran into him I went bright red and talked rubbish and then swooned. Anyway, at about 3am at this J-Dilla birthday club night thing, which was awesome, which is was my idea to go to, Runnin’ FINALLY came on, the place went crazy, and after it finished he turned to me and said ‘So, do you wanna make out?’. Apparently he never had me ‘down as a Dilla fan’.

Oh and the song I want to pick for my showertune if I am the lucky winner is California Soul by Marlena Shaw.

So many good songs. I love A Beautiful Morning, Since I left You and that version of LSF. I think in the end I’ll plump for All I Want Is You by Zilla Mayes. I’d not heard of it before, but I really like it. Thanks. Alex

A tough choice as there are so many good tracks on that list. I’m gonna plump for the stylings of MJ with ‘Don’t Stop ‘Til you get enough.’

My favourite #showertune has to be, although it was a mightily tough decision, ‘Your Woman’ by White Town. “Why so”? I hear you ask, well, it is simply for nostalgic reasons (oh those glory days of secondary school and NO responsibilities) and because even now, after all these years, I have no clue as to what it is about. A good mix indeed and because I want the showertunes compilation CD and to choose my showertune. My pick is Dreadlock Holiday because I DO LIKE cricket.

  3. My favourite is Pounds Of Soul by Betty Bibbs, with a close second of Get By by Talib Kweli.

I would recommend you include in your future posts Actor Out Of Work by St Vincent, and my personal #showertune Love Letters by Ketty Lester.

    Dear relly quiet tired.
My best showertune is Greatest Day by Take That this is becorse Take That is my best band and I love Gary I will marry him when I am older my mum said and I will be a princess. I like this song too becorse it reminds me of one of my best frends. I love him even thogh he is a boy and dosnt like playing my little ponys with me, but he does like playing teenage mutant hero turtles which is fun. I am always Mikelanjello he is the best one and eats lots of pizza.
Wen I here this song it makes me happy and that is what a good showertune shuld be.
